In Canada, it has been estimated that the value of edible food that is wasted to landfills is about 27 Billion dollars. This wasteful behaviour is largely due to our expectation of larger portions, confusion about safe consumption, sell-by dates and the lower cost of bulk buying. Over 51% of the waste comes from our homes, 9% comes from the Field, 3% from Transport and Distribution, 8% from Food Service, 18% from Packaging and Processing, and 11% from Retail Stores.
LifeCorps Food Share depends solely on donated food and household consumables. If you have food that you would like to give, for donations under 50 kilograms, please drop it off at our warehouse during office hours. For donations over 50 kilograms, we can arrange to have the donations picked-up. Please click here to fill out our Food Donation Form.
LifeCorps Food Share can help your company save thousands in disposal costs. Don’t throw out that edible food! We can arrange to have the food pick-up on a regular schedule. Donors are protected by Ontario’s Donation of Food Act, 1994. It protects the donor from liability provided that the donation is provided in “good faith”.
We need help picking up food, delivering food, packaging food and general help around the warehouse. If you would like to volunteer your time, please click here for our contact form.
